Advancement of Blacks In Sports (ABIS) Presents Wendell Scott with Pioneer Award

The Advancement of Blacks In Sports (ABIS) recently announced that Wendell Scott will be honored with the Pioneer Award at its third annual Champions & Legends Fundraising Weekend. This prestigious award will be accepted by his grandson, Warrick Scott, who serves as the CEO of the Wendell Scott Foundation.

Scheduled from May 31st to June 2nd, this dynamic event will unfold at the iconic MGM National Harbor Hotel & Casino, nestled along the scenic waterfront of Maryland's National Harbor.

The Pioneer Award recognizes Wendell Scott's groundbreaking achievements as the first African American team owner and driver to win a race in the Grand National Series of NASCAR (now Cup Series). His triumph shattered racial barriers and paved the way for greater diversity in racing, leaving a lasting legacy of perseverance and innovation.

"We are honored to recognize Wendell Scott's pioneering spirit and enduring impact on the world of motorsports," said Gary Charles, CEO, and founder of ABIS. "His contributions have not only inspired future generations but have also paved the way for greater inclusivity within the automotive industry."

The Pioneer Award, to be accepted by Warrick Scott on behalf of his grandfather, underscores the significance of Wendell Scott's legacy and the ongoing mission of the Wendell Scott Foundation to empower underserved youth and promote racial equality.

Funds raised during this impactful weekend will support ABIS' multifaceted programs and initiatives, including the pivotal financial coaching program. This initiative ensures that Black student-athletes are equipped with essential financial literacy skills, empowering them to navigate and thrive in their academic and athletic pursuits.
